Institute Location
The Coptic Studies Institute is located in the heart of the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abbassia, one of the most important spiritual and educational centers of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The Institute’s headquarters is distinguished by its prestigious historical location, which connects the authenticity of Coptic heritage with the spirit of contemporary academic research. From within this historic ecclesiastical landmark, the Institute continues its mission of studying Coptic language, literature, and arts, and of revitalizing the ecclesiastical heritage through a spirit of research and scholarship.
Library
A new reference library has been established on the second floor of the Institute’s building. The new library includes two large rooms for books and publications, a spacious reading room, a librarian’s office, computers, photocopying machines, an internet network, and a camera surveillance system. It has also been equipped with modern fire-extinguishing systems and central air conditioning.
The library contains a large collection of old and modern books covering various fields, particularly those related to Coptic Studies.
Coptic Hymns and Music Studio
The Department of Coptic Hymns and Music began its activities in 1922 under the leadership of Dr. Ragheb Moftah, nearly three decades before the establishment of the Institute, with the aim of recording, documenting, and preserving Coptic hymns. Over the years, the department has built a rare archive of recordings and has become a global reference in its field, with academic collaborations with universities in England, the United States, and Germany.
In 2019, the department underwent a comprehensive development of its audio studio, incorporating the latest soundproofing, recording, and mastering technologies, making it one of the most advanced audio studios in Egypt and the Middle East.
